propertECO were recently invited to attend a series of radon advice events in West Oxfordshire that had been arranged after a testing programme found many homes in the area contained above the recommended maximum level of radon.
Organised by West Oxfordshire Disrict Council, in conjunction with the Health Protection Agency (HPA) and Building Research Establishment (BRE), the events took place in Witney, Charlbury and Chipping Norton.
propertECO’s Commercial Director, Rebecca Kench, was interviewed by local community news channel Witney TV to highlight the importance of radon and ensure that locals were aware that it was a common occurrence in the area
A free testing programme was carried out in 2011 and of the 4000 homes tested, around 1 in 7 were found to contain radon levels above the recommended maximum of 200 Bq/m3. These residents were invited to attend the roadshow events to gather practical advice on what can be done to lower radon levels.
propertECO were delighted to be able to offer advice to over 500 householders who attended the events, all of whom had received results showing their homes contained elevated levels of radon. Following initial discussions with these residents as to how we could help reduce radon levels in their homes and provide a safe, healthy environment, we have spent the past week in the area carrying out property-specific surveys.
